Gene’s Ham.
For whatever reason I am not the best person to cook a ham, however my stepfather Gene is "The Man" when it comes to ham. He cooks every single holiday ham we have and it is perfect every time, moist, juicy and cooked just right.
The first thing to remember is that hams do not need to be cooked, they need to be warmed without over cooking. They are already fully cooked, smoked and cured when you purchase them.
We always start with a bone in whole ham from Falls brand or a whole bonless pitt ham from Falls brand. These ham recipes come from a family recipe that is over 100 years old. They are amazing!
For boneless or bone in ham 1/2 or whole fully cooked.
Ingredients you will need: sliced pineapple 15 oz. can, 1 lb brown sugar , 20 to 30 whole cloves.
Score the ham by slicing in 1 inch spaces completely along one side, then tuning the ham and doing the same thing at a diagonal and place whole cloves in the scores evenly.
Pour the brown sugar over the ham. Then place the pineapple slices all over the ham. You may use toothpicks to keep them in place. Pour the rest of the juice from the pineapple can over entire ham.
Bake at 325 degrees 15 to 18 minutes per lb. I usually bake a 10 to 15 lb ham for 21/2 to 3 hrs. It’s done when meat thermometer reads 140 degrees.
